Geri Halliwell deletes tribute to ‘original Spice Girl’ Margaret Thatcher

With people literally partying in the streets over the death of Margaret Thatcher, we don’t think Geri Halliwell, aka Ginger Spice, has any reason to apologize for offending anyone. Sadly, the singer, who in a 1996 interview famously called Thatcher the “original Spice Girl,” deleted her lovely tribute after coming under fire online.

@GeriHalliwell did you hear that #margaretthatcher died? I remember you saying you admired her a lot & she was an example of #girlpower.

GINGER SPICE HAS SPOKEN RT “@GeriHalliwell: Thinking of our 1st Lady of girl power ,Margaret Thatcher…who taught me any thing is possible”

— Steven Moore (@MilkySteve) April 8, 2013

Halliwell’s admiration of Thatcher hasn’t changed over the decades, but her ’90s-era “girl power” is no match for unhinged Thatcher hatred in 2013. How many of these people would argue that they and not Thatcher and Halliwell are the true feminists?

@GeriHalliwell unfollowed, you absolute Fucking buffoon.

@GeriHalliwell yes.. You too can hope for dementia followed by death ..

— VERTHLESS (@verthless) April 8, 2013

No, @GeriHalliwell, Margaret Thatcher did not possess an ounce of “girl power”. Legendary and divisive she was, feminist she was not.

— treboreuk (@treboreuk) April 8, 2013

— Thomas Helsby (@ThomasHelsby) April 8, 2013

Halliwell managed to disappoint supportive fans by deleting the tweet a couple of hours later, but the day wasn’t over yet.

This day is gettin better and better…. Oh god

Update: This tweet from a supporter is too good not to add.

@GeriHalliwell I’ll be interested to see what you take away from today. There’s a huge lesson about leftism vs freedom here. Be well. #tcot
